Lot 14: El Amate y Anexos - Caturra - Natural
Mr. Petronilo de Jesús Martínez is originally from the capital of Huehuetenango. In 1960, his father Gumercindo Martínez (who was one of the first 4 coffee producers in Hoja Blanca, Cuilco, Huehuetenango) inherited an area of 2 hectares to establish his firts batch of coffee.
From 1969 to 1973, Mr. Petronilo was President of the first Small Producers Cooperative in the región. At this time, their harvest was of 5 quintals of parchment coffee. By 1974, his harvest increased to 22 quintals, as a resulto f his work and implementation of techniques that managed to improve his production. Knowing how to use the farm’s profits and wanting to continue growing, he acquired other lots of coffee, which also led to the need to build his own wet mil and drying area.
From 1996 to date, “El Amate” maintains an anual production of 700 quintals of parchment. Mr. Petronilo exported his first batch to the United States in 2004. Being a lover of the production of good coffee, at the age of 78 and with the help of his young son, Petronilo Junior, they continued to make specialty coffee that they currently export to countries like United States and Canada.
Over the last 5 years, given the need to offer new processes to customers, El Amate began to process natural coffees, positioning itself among the winners of the first edition of One of a Kind Guatemala auction. And the International round of Cup of Excellence 2021 auction.
